4 March to 5 April 2020 - "Lines and Pauses" by Marc Pachon
Marc Pachon is a self-taught Springfield photographer who specializes in capturing movement and shadows of the human form. His show, “Lines and Pauses” is the culmination of works captured over the last year with local and international dancers and models, tied together with a common thread of fabric moving from one shot to the next, interspersed with his freeze-frame captures of moments in time that disappeared as soon as the photograph was taken. The show runs March 4 to April 5, and the Gallery Open House will be from 7:00 to 9:00PM on March 14, 2020, where Marc will be available to discuss his work.
6 April to 3 May 2020 - "Portraits" by Gene Moty
"Liz", 10"x10", oil on canvas
Gene Moty, a retired Air Force officer, creates abstract minimalist paintings using traditional materials. Blending geometric shapes, pure abstraction, light, shadow, and a limited color palette, Gene's work falls into two styles. The first includes vibrant and bold pieces that draw inspiration from the De Stijl artist movement and uses only primary colors. Then there are meditative pieces, inspired by personal relationships and special places, which uses textural impasto elements mostly in white with a touch of color. The results either push or pull on the viewer as they connect with each piece.
In “Portraits”, Gene engages with the viewer by providing glimpses into the people of his life through abstract portraits. The circle within each piece serves as a metaphor for the individual while the compositional elements portray each person as Gene sees them. The interplay of color, light, and shadow dancing on the textural impasto of the geometric and organic shapes makes these pieces as unique as a fingerprint.
This comprehensive body of work explores the concept of how human interaction and connection shapes one’s abstract perception of people. Gene will have twelve of these meditative works on display from April 6th to May 3rd 2020 in Gallery 9 at the Workhouse Arts Center. The opening reception will be from 7:00 to 9:00PM on April 11, 2020, where can meet Gene and discuss his work.
